FAQs

Q: Why do my candles look different?

A: Each candle is poured by hand, not a machine, which means there maybe some variation between candles. We aim to be as precise as possible, and we think the variations only add to the character of each candle.

Q: Why is my candle tunneling?

A: It is important that your first burn is approximately 2 to 3 hours OR until your candle reaches a full melt pool (melted wax from edge to edge) before you blow your candle out. Doing this will ensure an even burn throughout your candle's life.

Q: What safety measures should I take?

A: Please ensure you follow the safety tips when lighting your candle:

  • Trim your wick to 1/4 inch before each and every burn. This ensures your flame does not smoke, flicker too much or rise too high.
  • Your first burn should last 2 to 3 hours in order to achieve a full melt pool. A full melt pool prevents tunneling, which is excess wax build up on the side of your vessel.
  • Never leave a burning candle unattended.
  • Keep your candle out of reach of children and pets.
  • Never burn your candle near anything that can catch fire.
  • Be sure that you place your candle on a stable, heat resistant surface.
  • Keep lit candles away from any drafts.
  • Never burn your candle all the way down. Always leave 1/2 inch of wax in the bottom of the vessel.
  • Never touch or move a burning candle when wax is liquid.
  • Place burning candles at least 4 inches apart from one another.
  • Never use water to extinguish your candle.

Q: Do I need to trim my wicks?

A:  Yes, before each and every burn of your candle it is important to trim the wick. If your candle wick is too long, it can cause soot on the walls of your vessel. We recommend a cut length of  1/4 inch using a wick trimmer. However, small household scissors or nail clippers work just fine. We recommend that you only cut the wick once the wax has cooled to avoid any wick trimmings in the wax. Having a wick that is too long will not only cause your candle to burn quicker and hotter, it could also prevent your wick from staying lit.

Q: Why is there a lot of smoke when I light my candle?

A:  Make sure your wick is always trimmed to 1/4 inch before you relight your candle! Your first burn should be good to go, as I properly trim each wick before shipping. Before you relight your candle, gently pinch (or cut) the burnt tips of your wick.

Q: How do I remove the excess wax to reuse the vessel?

A:  If you are wanting to reuse your vessel, a good way of removing the excess wax in the bottom is to place to the vessel in the freezer for half an hour. This will shrink the wax and it can then be easily removed. Otherwise, run some hot water from tap, adding a little liquid dish detergent into the vessel and leave to soak overnight. The vessel can then be emptied and you can dispose of the wax. Gently picked off the wick sticker but be careful to not use a sharp object to remove, as this may scratch the paint work of the vessel.

Q: What should I do with the leftover wax from the silhouette candle?

A:  You can reuse them as wax melts.
